About
Quilts are beautiful heirlooms, passed from generation to generation as a tradition. At Modern Traditional Quilts, I strive to use updated, modern techniques to complete quilting projects and preserve the quilting tradition.
Shannon Mower was raised in a family of sewers and quilters and was taught the art of hand-quilting at a very young age. Shannon has many fond childhood memories of watching TV under the "quilt tent" created by the family's traditional bee-style quilting frame and was always in awe watching those stitches migrate across the fabric. As time wore on, Shannon graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree in biology and worked as a DNA analyst. Shannon has also graduated with a master's degree in education from Western Governors University and has worked as both a freelance textbook writer and a high school science teacher.
Shannon loves the art of quilting as it connects her to multiple generations of family, who all made quilts. Shannon loves to make "portable hugs" for someone special. Modern Traditional Quilts, her machine quilting and design company began in 2010, and she loves combining new colors and techniques to create something special.
