Welcome to the 2025 Charm Square Sampler Quilt A Long
Let's thrive, not survive in 2025!
It is time to purchase supplies. For this Charm Square Sampler Quilt A Long (QAL), you will need two (2) charm square packages of your favorite fabrics and two (2) charm square package of white. You will also need 1 1/2 yards of white for the sashing, 2 1/2 yards for the outer border and 1 yard for binding. The sashing, binding and border fabrics can be purchased at a later date. We will be sewing one block a month. Sashing and borders will be added in October and November.
For the QAL, I am using two different fabric palette lines: Rosemary Cottage by Camille Roskelly for Moda Fabrics and You and Me Fabric by Sandy Gervais for Riley Blake Fabrics. You only need one. I am demonstrating two because I love both fabric lines. One package makes one quilt. I will be making two quilts.
Here are some mock-ups of fabric and color placement. As the QAL continues, the fabric placement may be subject to change and I will update diagrams and videos as we go.
Different border fabrics change the finished look of the quilt. They are a great way to customize your quilt.

If you have already purchased your charm square packages, it's time to begin!
We are going to turn all of those charm squares into half-square triangles (HTSs). Start each block by selecting 8 prints from your charm square collection and 8 white 5" pre-cut squares.
Note: Charm squares are pre-cut to 5", including the serrated (pinking-shears looking) edge which leaves a useable size of 4 7/8". If you are using your stash, cut your squares into 4 7/8".
Draw a diagonal line down the center of all of the white charm squares. This will become your cut-line later on. I use a regular pencil for this.
With right sides facing, layer one white (or back-ground color) 5-inch charm square on top of your 5-inch charm square print.
Sew a 1/4 inch seam on both sides of the drawn line.
After both sides are sewn, cut these in half on the drawn line. I use scissors, but it is more commonly done using a rotary cutter and mat.
Press all squares open and toward the print fabric.
Use a ruler to square all HSTs to 4 1/2 inches. Note, you will mostly be removing the serrated edges from your charm pack.
